Falling Short
Devotion from the Garden
“Falling Short”
Sometimes life gets in the way. Sometimes we don’t utilize the opportunities given by God. Sometimes our resources are wasted. Sometimes we just fail at being stewards of what God has given us.
I scrambled Monday, one of the only days I have had free in almost a month, to pick and clean my jungle of a garden. It was a harsh reality to see my failure in such a massive amount. I fed almost 100 cucumbers to the animals. I picked around the tomato plants where there were hundreds of tomatoes way beyond their prime. I felt defeated seeing my wastefulness.
What can I say? Sometimes you just don’t get it right. Sometimes you screw up. Your priorities aren’t always in order. You find yourself in the same sin you said you had repented from. You fail… yet again. Or, possibly, you just get distracted by life and God takes the back burner. The unfortunate reality is that one day, you will be fumbling through life and God will reveal the missed opportunity, the consequences of your sin, the hurt that comes with a life not led to repentance.
BUT!!!!! Don’t give up! God is a God of second chances, a God that knows that all fall short of His glory, a God that knows the temptations and struggles of man, a God that changed the heart of a drunk, a murderer, an adulterer! So when you miss the opportunity, screw up yet another situation, get roped back into sin… KNOW that He is God and He sees you! He sees your struggle, He desires to refine you, and He cares so deeply for you that He wouldn’t dare leave you the way you are. He desires far greater for you than you could imagine for yourself!
Romans 3:23
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Isaiah 55:8-9
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 3:18-20
“ And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
